A discussion about what your dollars get you.

Welcome! You are invited to wander around and read all of the comments that have been posted here at Patton & Co., but as soon as you register you can see the bid limits that Alex, Peter and Mike propose for each player, and you can post your own comments. Registering is free, so please join us!

The glossary has been updated.

Subscribers get a head start on the bids, but before next Thursday they will be displayed on the player pages where everyone can see them.

2020 bids aren't appearing on the player page.

Using Jose Abreu, the following show up under the grid of the stats for the year, when I look at 2019 but don't show in 2020

2019 bids: PK 5x5: $25MF 5x5: $24AP 4x4: $24

We'll get that fixed in the next update, which is a week from today. Please keep reporting errors big and small right here.

If you're a subscriber, you probably have already grabbed today's update and discovered a wealth of notes -- highlight being PK sleepers -- in Quick Memo.

Hey all, the March 4, 2020 update is posted. That is, the full install of the software, the Excel file and the text files, are in the Subscriber area now.

If you use the pwo or pww file updates, please send me a note at [email protected] I'm happy to post them if they're being used.

The big news this week is CBS and LABR prices are in player profiles, along with prices from Rotoman, Mike Fenger and Alex Patton.

Subscribers will have to decide if we cut the late-breaking Chris Sale enough. He's opting not to have surgery, but for how long?

They'll find Yasiel Puig as a Free Agent in the NL file. If he signs with an AL team you can change his team name and he'll automagically switch leagues next time you load the program.

Shohei Ohtani is in the software as a pitcher and as a hitter. CBS and LABR both treat him as a multiposition player, so his price went into the pitching profile for him in the software. When Tout Wars auctions next week (14th and 15th) he'll get a hitter price.

I tested Crossover last year or the year before and it did not improve on WINE. That is, it no longer worked for Patton $ Online. That's been the case of the last couple of years at least. A few years ago I found a Lenovo thumb stick PC for $79 on Amazon. It runs an old version of Windows and it runs the program wonderfully. It is less adept with the internet, but I was able to make things work.

That said, I switched over from Mac to PC this year and the program screams on my new PC desktop designed for video editing. Not suggesting you switch, I had other reasons, but it can be done.

Which leaves Mac BootCamp, which will allow you to run Windows on a Mac. You have to buy Windows, however, so it isn't cost effective the first year. And it chews up a bunch of disk space, if you have a 128MB drive.

A better bet is that people you know have Windows laptops sitting around all over the place. You just need a machine that runs Windows XP and the Patton Software should run super fast. That's how well it's coded. That's what Alex is doing, so it is possible.

And if you can't find another way, Eugene is right, that most of the info in the program is in the spreadsheet as well. It is a little more complicated to edit and use, but I'm afraid that's the other solution we can offer at this point.

We wish we had more,

As a fellow Mac guy,  few years ago I converted over to Excel only.  I take the download and adjust the stats with my own projections, and calculate formulae to balance the books.  It works well for conversion from my traditional 5x5 to my secondary league with OBP.  But, it requires some masochist tendencies.

Just a note from  WINE-Y Mac user, WINE won't run in OS 10.15 Catalina so no P$ software for me this year. I've done some research and it looks like there is something called CrossOver 19 that will run in a 64-bit environment. Unfortunately Some download sites have it pegged as Malware so I am not gonna go near it. Anybody else hear of another option?
