Thread: Patton $ Online

A discussion about what your dollars get you.

Welcome! You are invited to wander around and read all of the comments that have been posted here at Patton & Co., but as soon as you register you can see the bid limits that Alex, Peter and Mike propose for each player, and you can post your own comments. Registering is free, so please join us!

Hey all, I finished the first pass of classifying players in the 30 or the 60 earlier today, and prorated all the projections.

I'm spending the next three days trying to allocate wins differently, and shift bids based on the differences in strength of schedule.

Correcting Alex's announcement, July 9 is update No. 1, but that's a Thursday, not Tuesday.

To be honest, I'm not sure there is higher thinking about how to handicap all this.

For instance, pitchers are usually ahead of hitters. But hitters have the advantage when the world heats up. So, who has the advantage on July 24?

I'm leaning more to spread the risk rather than stars and scrubs, because the stars shine over the long term, not as reliably in the short term. But on the other hand, in the short term the bottom of the barrel guys, because of injury opportunity or a hot streak, could be league changers. So why not invest in the best players whose wives aren't having babies this summer?

I'd be curious to hear who you think will benefit by the totally unbalanced schedules.

First update will be Tuesday, July 9.

We'll be busy!

We are looking at July 18 as our Zoom/Teams/WebEx draft.  Not sure what platform we're doing, but it will be video chat.  An update before July 18 would be ideal for me.

Rotoman, both would be nice

We are planning another update. Two questions. When? And involving prices and/or projections?

If anyone wants one or the other we'll do both. That's what we said we'd do. But this is so weird, we'd like to hear what you really want and do our best to fulfill that.

Thanks for paying! That makes this work.

Yes, there will.

Peter and I were talking about it today. Clearly all the rehab time will have to be factored in. We'll do our best to parse the "spring training" rosters. We'll try to scope out six-man rotations and expanded bullpens. Bigger benches. Taxi squads.

All of this will have to add up to all-new bids.

What about projections? Peter's willing to do his best there, but there's something about 60-games projections that makes me cringe.

The whole season makes me cringe but surely it's better than no season.

I think. Actually I'm not sure.

We can have the first update out by 7/12. It will be very tentative.

My home league is proceeding with a draft on 7/12. Will there be another update coming?

Shoot, for one thing. Mike Fenger sent me a note this afternoon saying, Please make Chris Sale an R5. I didn't do it. You should. Now I have.

Text and Excel files have been uploaded. Please check back Friday for any notes about corrections. I don't anticipate any important ones, they're not playing games for who knows how long and almost all the changes this week involved injuries and suspensions, and how a shortened season might change those values now. We'll keep tinkering and let you know if anything important presents itself.

So, the full install of the program is uploaded and available on the Subscriber page. I got bogged down tonight, so while the update includes new prices for some players (mostly those expected to miss the early part of the season because of injury (up) or suspension (down) and full Tout Wars prices from this past weekend's auction, I didn't have a chance to fully double check. So please keep an eye out and let me know if you see any mistakes. I hope to get the text and Excel files out tonight, but it might be tomorrow morning. Sorry for any inconvenience.
