this is my philosophy as well but in my league i'm in the minority on this.

All of our FAAB purchases are $15 as keepers the next year.  We've made a conscious decision to keep more guys in the auction.  I would guess that 3-4 FAAB guys get kept the next year, most years.  If that.

i should add to this that we have four farm slots. You can keep someone as a farm player indefinitely but since there are only four slots you're not going to waste one of your slots on someone like Bruce Maxwell.

We use $10 for minor league players called up in-season. For a minor leaguer who makes the Opening Day roster who wasn't activated by his Roto team, he gets a $5 salary at auction and is immediately bumped to $10 at the conclusion of the auction.

We do the same thing for players acquired via FAAB. Anyone who costs less than $10 gets bumped to $10 at the conclusion of the regular season.

A reasonable approach.  You do see these leagues with heaps of keepers, and umpteen year contracts, and FAAB guys kept at a buck . . .

We really don't.  But, that's because we only allow 5 major league keepers plus 2 minor leaguers, or more minor leaguers at the expense of major league slots.  And, extend/option comes after the auction/activation year, not a year later like most leagues. It's a happy medium.

And people wonder why leagues have massive inflation . . .

I asked for this John Sickels's Smackdown in case I decide to move one or both of Adames and Barreto, who I have as minor leaguers with $1 contracts when they lose rookie eligibility.  (They were my last round supplemental picks in 2015 and 2016 respectively).

Of course, I still have no idea who will be better long-term.  Our rules allowing so few keepers makes things really hard sometimes.

As someone who has Adames for a couple years and has monitored his progress as he ranks higher and higher on various prospect lists, I've decided to punch myself in the face and compare his minor league numbers to a couple shortstops of the past who were ranked similarly (perhaps even higher).  It looks like he hits and has moved up at the same pace as Alex Gonzalez. Sure Gonzalez was a long-career major leaguer.  But, all I can think about was that in 1996 I paid $14 for him and Jeter went for $12.

In 1994, as a 21 year old, Gonzalez hit 284/361/435 with 12 Hr and 23 SB in AAA at Syracuse.

Another 21 year old SS who I've had for even longer, over in the PCL, has hit 290/339/456 with 15 HR and 15 SB.

I think I'm going to deal Gonzalez, I mean Adames, this offseason if I can upgrade elsewhere.

If you're wondering why the Rays, in the midst of a pennant race, have not brought up their three top prospects: Adames, Bauers, and Honeywell, it's because they are trying to win the AAA Championship.

Willy 279/363/418 with 30 2B 5 3B 10 HR and 11 SB

Bauers 263/367/412 31 2B 13 HR 20 SB

Honeywell 12-8 3.64 152 Ks & 31 BB in 123.2 in AAA; 1-1 2.08 20 Ks & 2 BB in 13 IP in AA
