Top ten stolen bases halfway through the season:

Three knocks, two over the fence, good for six ribbies last night against the Mariners.

Interesting observation from Mike G in his "Only-League Landscape: American League Outfielders," posted now at BP:
... A Stars and Scrubs strategy is a tempting route to take in an environment where half the AL teams aren’t trying to win, but even so, you need something out of all five of your outfield slots.
Sixty-one of the top 168 AL hitters in 2018 were outfielders. This left virtually no wiggle room if two or more teams in your league used an outfielder in their DH slot. There was a time when an outfielder with middle infield eligibility would have found himself slotted in at second base to take advantage of the depth in the outfield. Those days are over, and if you had Whit Merrifield or Dee Gordonon your roster, chances are excellent they spent time in your team’s outfield.

I never blame anybody near 30 for taking as much money as they can get. This is the contract that sets him up for the rest of his days, if he has any money management skills at all.

Signed for 4 years, $16.5 million, giving up three years of arbitration.
A lot of money, but with good health -- knock on wood -- he would have made more.
I'm trying to remember: is there a strike clause in the guaranteed contracts?

He gets two pans, if you can believe it, in the Guide. Two people who are familiar names here says phooey to that.
GIANELLA PICK: Merrifield had one of the
best seasons in fantasy in 2018 and yet is still
somehow undervalued. He has one of the best
chances of any player taken outside of the first
round to return Top 10 value.
McCAFFREY PICK: Call the regression police!
A violator! Lesson: you can’t regress to the
mean until a mean has been established. I
might trade Merrifield in a keeper league since
he’s now 30, but not if I was planning to win in
2019.
