My comment after the CBS NL Auction:

"I could see him turning into 2021's Pete Alonso still.  I just wasn't ready to bid double digits to see if he would do it on my team."

Wish I had.  Alonso with some SBs thrown in.

Fortunately, I control him in my home league as a $6b ... will be an interesting (and enjoyable) extension decision next year.

Also made a nice running catch for the last out with the tying and winning runs steaming around the bases.

Tyler O'Neill (OF) STL - Jun. 01

https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=782147

O'Neill went 2-for-4 with two singles, a run, stolen base and two strikeouts as the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 3-2 on Tuesday.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Neill singled in the sixth but more impressively led off a tie game in the top of the ninth with a single, steal of second and subsequent run after an Edmundo Sosa single. O'Neill's 12 home runs and five steals are both career highs in only 36 games played and he's one of seven players with at least 5 steals and a .900 OPS this season.

I own him in one of five leagues and expect him to be available in my lower keeper league. I'm excited.

Crushing it ... 1.395 OPS so far this spring ... but moreover only 25% strikeout rate.

I had penned O'Neill in on my pre-auction buy list as my $5 OFer.  Nope - he went for $9.  Relatively neutral bidding around him (+4 for 10 surrounding picks).

I could see him turning into 2021's Pete Alonso still.  I just wasn't ready to bid double digits to see if he would do it on my team.

When you look at his BABIP and consider it doesn't include strikeouts, the wonder is he batted .173.

Tyler O'Neill (OF) STL - Feb. 23

https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=763461

O'Neill has been focusing on improving several aspects of his hitting over the last few months after mustering just a .173 average in 157 plate appearances last season, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. "I'm definitely more focused on that (offensive) side of the ball this year," O'Neill said. "I know it was a down year for me in the average department. I was still able to do some damage but obviously not in the way I would have liked and that the staff would have liked."

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: O'Neill offered Gold Glove defense in 2020, but his .173/.261/.360 line and 27.4 percent strikeout rate left plenty to be desired. Consequently, the 25-year-old center fielder went right into honing his craft during the offseason and got an early jump on working with Cardinals hitting coaches this spring. Specifically, O'Neill is concentrating on refining his timing and developing a less mechanical approach at the dish after posting sub-70.0 percent contact rates in all three of his big-league stints thus far.
