In his last 5 starts (including the one referenced below) his control has still been good (23 IP, 7 BB to 26 K) ...  but a 51%!!! hard hit ball rate, leading to a .432 BABIP *and* a 30% HR/FB rate.

As one Giants blogger writes:  "I’m inclined to think the league has a book on young Tyler. He may even be tipping his pitches. Whatever the case, the A’s, and other teams, have been hitting Beede’s fastball like it was a bp pitch. It appears the young righty has lost faith and command in his change-up and slider and has relied too heavily on the number one, which though it may be traveling at 95 MPH, appears to be a little too straight to avoid violent collisions with opponent wooden baseball bats."

Touched up a bit by the Cubbies (3 HRs with the wind blowing 10 mph out to CF) ... but again only 1 walk to 7 K's.

In his first 7 games, threw *2* sliders.

In his last 4 games, he's been throwing it 20% of the time.

Only 10 pitches from a Maddux, as the Giants pinch hit for him in the bottom of the 8th with his pitch count at 89.

Only one walk, to DeGrom.  Yeah, it's the Mets, but still.

Does anyone have a good site for seeing barrel rate for pitchers?  Would be interesting to figure out just how much of this current hot streak is luck.

Phil seems to have prophetic on Beede in the short term.  Eight shutout innings last night in a pitchers duel with deGrom.  Giants, on fire of late, won it in the 10th after Alex Dickerson drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Dom Smith fielding error.  Maybe Madbum won't be dealt after all.

Held Milwaukee to 3 runs ... but perhaps more importantly, his second game in a row with no walks over 13 innings.

That just feels significant for a former #14 draft pick.  Up to now everyone knew he could strike people out, but if he can do so while not giving up a lot of free passes ....
