Had a blast this morning looking at the NYT pictures from the 1964 Shea AS game. Picking out the players, HOF and otherwise, from the photos, including a happy looking Casey Stengel (bet that grin was a rarity that season) was fun. Mays is glimpsed but not identified in the players congratulating Callison at home plate, Banks too. Dugout photo with Alston and McCovey et al is great too.

I think one factor that helped minimize the impact of offense in the Nl expansion was the parks- Colt Stadium was an extreme pitcher's park and Polo Grounds V was pretty much neutral for hitters. Houston was actually better than league average in ERA and runs allowed.

Following up on Peter's observation in the Cepeda thread...

Baby Bull's teammate likewise didn't particularly benefit from the league's expansion in 1962.
