Righty Robert Suarez pitched a scoreless inning in the second appearance of his rehab assignment. He didn’t allow a baserunner and struck out a batter. He’s eligible to come off the 60-day IL on August 5.

June 10: Suarez undergoes knee surgery
Right-hander Robert Suarez underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips in his right knee on Thursday. He will be shut down from throwing for at least a few weeks, manager Bob Melvin said.

The injury did not come about until after Suarez's most recent outing, on June 5 in Milwaukee, and, according to Melvin, "it got bad in a hurry for him."

We have his BIS ID, so we should be getting his stats. But plainly we aren't.

Closer Monkey:

San Diego Padres — With Pierce Johnson on the IL with forearm tendinitis, Steven Wilson pitched a perfect 7th inning to pick up his 4th hold of the season.  The rookie has been pitching well out of the Padres’ bullpen and should see more time in the later innings.  Robert Suarez got the win in extras last night and has now strung together 4 straight scoreless appearances, including 7 strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Updated hierarchy: Rogers | Suarez | Wilson.

He also has the distinction of being the first player waived in my league.  Let’s hope that Reds reliever gets more than one save.

I am in the odd position of having both Suarez and Rogers on my mixed league roster. I picked up Duran this morning thinking he may have the most upside of the the Min BP arms.

Not ideal Alex, but I still bet Suarez earns it.  Certainly will be using some FAAB dollars on Rogers this week.

Not what Joel likes to see, not to mention AL-only owners who just lost Taylor Rogers.

San Diego Padres — Taylor Rogers should start the year at the top of the Padres’ hierarchy after the team acquired him on Thursday, but we’ll keep an eye out to see how Bob Melvin deploys his bullpen in the early stages of the season. One thing we know for sure is Emilio Pagan will not be part of Melvin’s plans, as he is off to Minnesota.

Updated hierarchy: *Rogers | Suarez | Lamet.
