The Fisher Catamounts are pleased, but then, we knew that no matter what, we'd have Orlando Arcia, so that was kind of nice.  Last time we had the first reserve pick, we did a lot of research and came up with "Bryce Harper", and we thank our crack research team for digging him up.

We had a lot of freezes, and we had a lot of money.  We figured, hey, let's buy Harper, and then we realized Peter was going all Wolf of Wall Street and we got out before we ended up like the Lamborghini scene.

C:  Flowers (5)

C: Barnhart (1)

1B:  Howard (11)

2B:  Baez (17)

SS:  Galvis (1)

3B:  A.Garcia (6)

CR:  Bour (2)

MI:  Spangenberg (3)

OF:  Marte (44)   Since we couldn't get Harper, we took Marte for too much money, because we had some.

OF:  Hamilton (24)  We needed steals, and he was there.  Kind of like the reasoning for some people who get married in their mid 40s.

OF:  Soler (20)

OF:  Ozuna (14)

OF:  Blanco (1)

UT:  Zobrist (21)  With Baez a bit of a muddle, we figured pay a few extra bucks for the positional flexibility, and maybe a lot of runs scored

P:  Harvey (10
P: Corbin (10)

P:  J.Garcia (2)

P:  Gonzalez (12)

P:  S.Miller (14)

P:  Finnegan (12)  We liked these three prices, even though we may regret not going Syndergaard or Cole + scrubs for the same.

P:  T. Wood (1)

P:  Strickland (9)  A lot of money on the table at the end...

P:  McGee (17)  It was that or Fernando Rodney.

Like many, we had some regret at not going another buck on Cespedes.  Thankfully, it didn't end up with a $15 Melvin Upton....

Like Bernie Sanders, we are insurgent.  That's the hope---we don't want to be insurgent like the film, with its 29% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Very fun inaugural PCL auction for the Oracles. Plan was to buy Bryce Harper and one other big offensive player, then troll for potential future keeps. My inflation adjusted prices were pretty good, I could tell the money wasn't being spent, which led to some run ups later on and some money left on table. Unfortunately, one of the guys who went more cheaply was Ryan Braun. I would rather have spent more for Starling Marte.

Also, planned to going for future freeze hitters, but pitchers ended up being a little cheaper sometimes, so I spent more on that said than I thought I would. It was fun.

C: Brayan Pena (1)

C: Tony Wolters (2)

1B: Kelly Johnson (8) Last first baseman. Otherwise end up with B Wallace.

2B: Joe Panik (10) Freeze

3B: Brandon Drury (8) Future play

SS: Adeiny Hechavarria (4) Freeze

MI: Kolten Wong (19) Fair price

CI: Brett Wallace (1) Whoops.

OF: Aaron Altherr (2) Play for 2017

OF: Ryan Braun (35) I like him more than most.

OF: Giancarlo Stanton (33) Freeze

OF: Bryce Harper (54) I would have said 56.

OF: Trayce Thompson (8) I liked him best of remaining OF and had the dough.

UT: Kelby Tomlinson (2) Hope he's something real in 2017

P: Jake Arrieta (15) Freeze

P: Kenta Maeda (15) $1 over my price, but a target.

P: Aaron Nola (10) Freeze

P: Vince Velasquez (12) Well over my price, but a target, and money to spend.

P: Zack Wheeler (7) For 2017.

P: Tony Cingrani (1) Closer in Waiting?

P: Jeremy Jeffress (2) Freeze

P: Kevin Quackenbush (3) Closer in Waiting!

P: Hector Rondon (7) Freeze

As I said, very fun, in part because there was no pressure for this year. And I can hope Brett Wallace has a breakout year. Something to look forward to.

Palin 2016 - The whole squad:

C:    Jonathan Lucroy (22)
C:    Devin Mesoraco (15)
1B:  Ryan Zimmerman (16)
3B:  David Wright (13)
CR: Cody Asche (3)
2B:  Addison Russell (15)
SS:  Eugenio Suarez (2)
MD: Josh Harrison (6)
OF: Charlie Blackmon (13)
OF: Hunter Pence (21)
OF: Gerardo Parra (23)
OF: Ben Paulsen (7)
OF: Kirk Nieuwenhuis (1)
UT: Rymer Liriano (1)

P: Adam Wainwright (22)
P: Tyson Ross (20)
P: Julio Teheran (19)
P: Michael Wacha (17)
P: Wily Peralta (2)
P: John Lamb (1)
P: Jason Grilli (10)
P: David Hernandez (1)
P: Adam Ottavino (1)

Bold players were my keepers.

In general, I was surprised by where the draft took me. I had money and wanted to  buy a stud OF (Harper, McCutchen, Marte, Kemp, Cespedes, or Braun), and at least one stud starter (Syndergaard, Cole, or Cueto). I didn't do any of that and just did my usual middle-of-the-road approach.

Bid that I regret - Tyson Ross

I already had gotten Teheran and Wacha, and clicked on $20 at the very last moment. I would have been better served getting two $12 guys later.

Pick that I love - John Lamb
Man-crush here. It could just fizzle out, but I think he's got a shot to be special.Super K-rific secondary stuff.

Reserve Picks
I got Manuel Margot with my 1st round pick (6th overall), but the two I really love are Miguel Castro ($5) and Hansel Robles ($2). Both have the goods to be top-notch future closers, but they also can be shuffled in and out of my active roster in case of injuries.

I have no delusions of greatness, but I like my offense and about half of my pitchers. I went into the auction thinking it was very unlikely that I'd be happy, and I'm a little bit pleasantly surprised.

Some quick takes from tonight's auction:

Harper for $54. Marte $44, McCutchen $42, Dee Gordon $42

Pitching: Syndergaard and Cole went for $31, Cueto for $27.

Trevor Story went for $24

There was a ton of money left on the table. After being the next to last bid on Harper and Thor, I threw my plan out the window and went back to what I know, boring:

Ryan Zimmerman $17, David Wright $13, Jonathan Lucroy $22, Gerardo Parra $23,
Julio Teheran $19, Tyson Ross $20, Michael Wacha $17.

That was all in the first 33 picks, then I sat out about 80 players until I got my next one.

I was stopped cold with my one major goal: Get Victor Robles in the fifth round (when the prices go down to $5). He was taken about 3 picks ahead of me. That will haunt me for oh, I don't know, about 12 years.

5x5 BA or OBP?

Either one, it looks like a winner. Did you get Brito before the news?

I don't think you'll be disappointed with Carter.

I put Montero onto my Doubt Wars mixed at about that price.

Mike is just jealous. You know, he has very small hands. And, he's a loser. Now, I'm not saying I know this for sure, but a lot of real smart people are telling me that Mike's goldfish cheated on his goldfish wife.

Especially when he gets rolling and mixing, saying, "yadda, yadda, Mitch McConnell's contact rate, Jedd Gyorko should be on the ticket, make Pablo Sandoval pay for the wall, I couldn't believe the bids at the Ayn Rand conference", that sort of thing.
