re: too late ... indeed it is :-)

re: email ... the trick was that email sent to [email protected] has to come from one of the 12 emails registered for the 12 owners ... so I resent it this morning ... success.

I got it in my inbox now.  Won Straily for $8, and the next highest bid was $3.

Is it too late to change my bid?

No email for me.

I got the notifications from the site for the FAABs, but I did not receive an email from you with the details.

I'd be interested to see if anyone else wanted Straily. I read the link that Peter posted on Straily's player page, and thought it was worth a shot. I'm not much up on pitchfx and stuff like that, but from the way I read it, Straily's velocity in September last year and so far this season is higher than it's been since June of 2013.

Worth a shot, I figure, there's innings to be had in Cincy (John Lamb comment page)

Oh, there's no point overbidding spare parts at the end just to say you spent all your money.

I just spent a couple of hours tweaking my pitching numbers/bids.  My partner and I divide primary responsibility between us; he's (mainly) in charge of hitters; I'm mainly in charge of hitters.  My first cut is only $10 over (that is, my combined bids, and the prices of the kept pitchers, are only $10 over what I project the overall pitching spending in the league to be) so that's pretty good.

It's particularly true in a league like the PCL with long-term keeper potential. Odds are that I'll end up keeping one or more of those guys next year, and it's nice that they're all $1 instead of $3 or $4.

I just looked at the last 40 guys that went in the PCL auction, and I didn't really have a better feeling about any of them over the guys I chose (I mean, who really knows at that point? - if they were great, they would have already gone).

The only exception may be Jon Gray, whom I actually won at $3, but the commish (because of his hatred of me, it's an Al Davis type thing), backed him out and then awarded him to another owner, just for spite.**

** Because this is the internet and things get misconstrued, OF COURSE I don't think it happened that way. As soon as it happened, I was pretty sure it was one of those things where the team wanted to bid but someone got locked out. As a matter of fact, I think that's the only time that happened this year, it happened a lot more frequently in other years.

It is better to spend your money than not, unless you buy the guys you want and can't spend all your money. That situation happens all the time and obviously odd, but it isn't bad play at all.

I know, I'm repeating what you were saying, but I'm repeating because it's true.

With just 20 spots left to be filled, I had $16 for 5 spots.

I brought up Asche cause I wanted him. Someone said $2, I got him for $3
I then brought up John Lamb, no one said $2, so I got him for $1
Then, the same for Nieuwenhuis, Ottavino, and Liriano. If anyone would have said $2, I would have gotten them for $3. But I got them all for $1.

I'd have been fine if someone had said $2 for those last 4 guys and I had to pay $3, and I would have left no money on the table. As it turns out, I got them all for $1, and I'm even happier that I left $9 on the table.

As a purist myself, I know it doesn't sound right, but it sounds right to me.

Venial, indeed.  We were heading toward "major" with $12 left and only Hunter Strickland to buy, but he went for $9, so we needed most of the money.  I guess.  But that happens more often than not, I find.

Kent, I had your scenario happen to me (too clever) in my home league last year, which led to me buying a $12 Ryan Rua and $10 Ike Davis....brutal.  Absolutely brutal.  I spent most of the summer checking Ryan Rua and Ike Davis injury reports.
