Thread: Patton & Co. League

Welcome! You are invited to wander around and read all of the comments that have been posted here at Patton & Co., but as soon as you register you can see the bid limits that Alex, Peter and Mike propose for each player, and you can post your own comments. Registering is free, so please join us!
Glad you're not going anywhere, Mike!

And now, moving right along, the new reps of Patton & Co in the CBS leagues are...

In the AL, Slyke.

In the NL, Texpope.

How great is that?

Thanks for the kind words, Alex.

I wouldn't be playing this game if it wasn't for you....or at least I wouldn't be playing it this well. I bought the original green book when I was in high school at a mall bookstore but didn't really learn how to play until I picked up the original blue Peter Goldenbock "How to Win at Rotisserie Baseball" book the next year. Most of the book was irreverent, funny, offbeat, but when I got to your 30-40 pages on valuation it must have been what listening to Beethoven's fifth was like when it was premiered. It took me while to move from fumbling pupil to mastering the material, but every step was worth it.

And I'm not going anywhere. I'm still no more of an "expert" than most of the people on these discussion boards. We're all learning, every year, every time a new season starts. The information on these boards is invaluable.

I stopped buying a handful of years ago, but I enjoyed it. Not sure what the online subscription runs these days, but I think I'd be inclined to go that way if I went back.

Agree their fantasy advice was never super, but the data/eval/team outlooks were handy.

Oh, I like the annual OK; I still buy it. It's not bad for broad-banding -- you can come away with a list of guys to target (not on price, just on more-likely-than-not-to-improve), and a list of guys to avoid on a similar basis.

They just don't get our game. Half of them.

For the real game, I like the site a lot.

Less of a fan of their printed annual. They work too hard to be clever. Or they did the last time I read it. Maybe that's changed.

I'm a Patton & Co fan ... and a BP fan ... what is "it" that half the folks at BP don't get?

I'm wondering if it's related to the shocking news that PK drop'd on us here 3 days ago: " All expert ratings are wrong." :-)

ps. Congrats, MikeG! Make BP better!

MikeG has joined the cyber-stained wretches at Baseball Prospectus and thus can't represent Patton & Co in the CBS league, and Toz...

I'm not sure what Toz's excuse is, but there seem to be not one but two openings in the CBS leagues that are going unclaimed by Patton & Co.

Anyone need another league?

Correction: anyone willing to take on another league?

Shoot me an email pronto if you are.

Many thanks to both Mike and Toz. They did us proud. I think between them they won half a dozen pennants, at least.

Congratulations, Mike, on your new gig! They made a very wise hire. Half the folks there just don't get it.

Much appreciated.

There is a trade evaluator in the toybox but it's largely based on preseason projections and doesn't adjust for what is happening during the season.

Anyone ever bought this one?

$35 seems a bit steep for any of these.
