I expect him to get more than $17 million AAV. For me, more like 5/100. Opting out was a no-brainer.

Ken Davidoff has him in the AL already and clearly doesn't think he should have opted out.
16. Nick Castellanos (OF, Age 29)
The highest-ranking person on this list to opt out of an existing contract.
Prediction: Guardians, five years, $85 million
Nov 9 '21
Yep, an NL DH rule change would greatly increase his number of suitors.

With a -1.3 dWAR, he's going to wait for the new CBA before he signs.
The 29-year-old declined his $16 million player option for 2022 last week, so Cincinnati decided to extend him the qualifying offer. Castellanos unsurprisingly declined, and the Reds will now receive draft pick compensation depending on the specifics of his new deal, assuming he signs elsewhere. He should receive significant interest on the open market after hitting .309/.362/.576 with 34 homers, 38 doubles, 100 RBI and 95 runs in 138 games during 2021.

Not hard to turn down this option.
Nick Castellanos (OF) - Nov. 05

GM Nick Krall said Friday the Reds will extend Castellanos the $18.4 million qualifying offer for 2022, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Castellanos recently declined his $16 million player option for 2022, and it's not a surprise Cincinnati will extend the qualifying offer given he's likely to receive a significant multi-year contract this offseason. The 29-year-old will almost certainly decline the offer and instead test the open market. He enjoyed the most productive season of his career in 2021, hitting .309/.362/.576 with 34 homers, 38 doubles, 100 RBI and 95 runs in 138 games.

I think most teams will not sign players quickly. But, they will have a window to do so between the end of the World Series and the expiration of the CBA. At that point I expect management to lock out the players. There won't be any signings during the lockout until a new CBA is reached. The idea behind the lockout is to put pressure on free agent players to pressure the Union to agree to a lesser deal. As the players saw during the first set of pandemic negotiations, management prefers less baseball, as strange as that sounds. Almost all of the shared revenue is generated during the playoffs rather than the regular season. Individual teams make money during the regular season, but that's unbalanced revenue. Teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs will want to make a quicker deal b/c they will be losing out on their regular season windfalls. Others would prefer no baseball until the playoffs. The Pirates make a ton of money in the playoffs just by existing despite never being in.
If Castellanos opts out he will be taking a risk, but if he doesn't, these three years will be his last big payday. It's a tough call on his part. Even if he does opt out, will he get more than 3 years of big money? I think he may be better served to not opt out, but I don't know the market for corner outfielders.

Gets him two points behind Soto for the batting crown.
Nick Castellanos (OF) CIN - Sep. 20

Castellanos went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs in the win over the Pirates on Monday.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The right fielder hit a two-RBI double in the third inning, opening the scoring for the Reds. He later singled in Jonathan India in the eighth inning. After getting only one multi-hit game in his previous 13 contests, Castellanos has notched two straight while going 5-for-8 with four RBI.

A little more pricey than Brogdon and Naquin, Kent, but here's someone who is off to a good start. When you touch them all more often than you walk back to the dugout, you are definitely seeing the ball.
For the record: in six games, Nick has fanned twice and hit four homers (also two doubles and a triple).

It seems 2020 never happened.
Nick Castellanos (OF) CIN - Apr. 04
https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=768664
Castellanos went 2-for-4 with a triple, a three-run home run and two total runs scored in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: A day after being ejected because he "re-engaged the pitcher in unnecessary fashion" after scoring on a wild pitch (crew chief Jim Reynolds' words), Castellanos broke the game open with his second homer of the young season. Castellanos already has six hits, including four for extra bases, through three games in 2021.
