Mon, Aug 24 - Diamondbacks placed RHP Merrill Kelly on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.

Kelly was supposed to start for the Diamondbacks on Monday night
against the Rockies, but he got scratched moments before first pitch and
has now landed on the IL.  This is a bad loss for Arizona, as the
31-year-old right-hander has registered a sharp 2.59 ERA, 0.989 WHIP,
and 29/5 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings (five starts) this season. There
is no timetable at this point for his return to the D-backs' starting
rotation. (Rotoworld.com)

6.2 scoreless last night. Outduels Dinelson Lamet with almost identical pitching lines, the difference being the gopher that Lamet serves up in the bottom of the sixth.

D'backs win their ninth, only two fewer than the Pads.

From Mike G at BP:

In the first 110 games of 2020, a total of 52 pitchers have thrown at least five innings. This is low, but not as bad as I would have anticipated. In 2019, with a regular spring training, a total of 72 percent of starters completed five innings in their first regular-season start. The starting pitchers are catching up, and in a couple of weeks this won’t be a significant issue.

Off the top of my noggin', I'm going to guess that the answer is not that many. The A's are waiting for their first starter to make it through five if I'm not mistaken.

Pitched into the eighth inning tonight in Texas. He looked like he didn't have much left against the last batter, Kiner-Falefa, with two runners on, but got him to pop out.

How many starting pitchers have made it through five innings so far?

Merrill Kelly (P) AZ - Jul. 18

The Diamondbacks announced Saturday that Kelly will begin the season in the starting rotation, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 31-year-old was considered the favorite for the No. 5 spot in the rotation with the absence of Mike Leake (opt out), and he was able to hold off Alex Young to secure the job.
