It's okay to brag about getting Schwarber. Not okay to brag about his team's record against the Yankees. A lot could happen in six games.

Rotowire:

Could move to first base
July 31, 2021
Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said the Red Sox will look at Schwarber (hamstring) at first base, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox targeted a left-handed hitting first baseman, but short of landing Anthony Rizzo, they settled on Schwarber, who has a comparable or perhaps better bat. It's uncertain when Schwarber will be able to start training at first base; he's estimated to be 10 to 14 days away from playing as he recovers from a hamstring strain that's held him out since early July. Schwarber won't be solely used at first base and is expected to rotate at first, DH and left field.

In the span of a few hours on Thursday afternoon, the Red Sox’s path to the postseason got a little trickier. Opponents across the league and in their own division bolstered their rosters while the Red Sox seemingly sat idle.

Then Thursday night’s 13-1 thumping at the hands of the Blue Jays made that Red Sox’s inactivity feel even more concerning.

But shortly after manager Alex Cora’s postgame media session ended around 11 p.m., news broke that the Red Sox had at least one of their own trade deadline pieces in place, as Boston acquired slugger Kyle Schwarber from the Washington Nationals in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Aldo Ramirez.

Yeah, and back in the day he was a catcher.

Just wow. Reminding us why he was hyped back in the day. Nice production for a coming Free Agent.

The first player in history to hit 15 homers in 17 games.

I would have sworn Barry Bonds did that more than once.

My question is - does he make it much past the AS break as a National?

The Nats have an 11 mil mutual option for Schwarber - and if he continues with this kind of season he's going to want a lot more money than that to stay.

OTOH  - nobody is taking over the NL East - and if Scherzer is healthy they could well be in 1st by late July.

And he's hot . . . looking like a 2018/2019 type of season.
