A 13-2 pasting put on the Fightless Phils tonight by the Blue Jays. Pillar the chief tormentor with two home runs and a single. Shame on you if you dropped him in a mixie.

I wish I had listened. I missed that.

I give you BGWoodsman, March 8, 2015:

"The scouts scoff.  He's all hustle and grit from what I hear, though I haven't had a chance to see him.  Nevertheless, Pompey is very green, Toronto's OF is very thin, and this guy has made a minor league career out of hitting it in the gaps and stealing a few bases.  He will probably cost more than $1 if he looks to break camp with a job, but the ideal scenario is he's slotted as a platoon guy or a 4th OF to start the year.

Steal him in the endgame or the reserve rounds and see how things shake out."

I just wish one smart guy had touted pillar last year.  Last. Guy. $3 left. Outfield open. I said $1 for weeks and heard crickets.

I think Pillar could see some time at the top, as could Pompey, who looks to be in at least a platoon with Saunders. I believe the ultimate goal in Toronto is to have Pompey leading off, and working him into that role slowly isn't a bad approach.

The vibe out there is negative, I think because of all those lack of walks.

That does make him a less than optimum leadoff hitter.

It seems to me that failing is hurting his price, which makes him a good buy. There was nothing weird about his performance last year, except he wasn't supposed to do that as a major leaguer after doing it as a minor leaguer.

That's no guarantee of continued success, but I think he's underrated this year. A repeat would not be a surprise.

Doesn't it seem like he could work his way into being a decent lead-off hitter? Is that really going to continue to be Tulo's job?
