re: Betts vs Trout ... MLB execs take Trout ... and one mentions Soto as next-in-line :-)
Oct 24 '20
Just three days later, Soto has a seven-point lead over Solano, an eight-point lead over Freeman in the batting race.
In such a short season things change quickly.
Soto has a 17-point lead over Freeman in the OBP race. Then it's a drop of 51 points to Goldschmidt.
He has a 50-point lead over Freeman and Myers for the slugging crown. It's safe to say that won't change.

The batting race in the NL comes down to Freddie Freeman (.359) and late-arriving Juan Soto (.349). Trea Turner (.338), Michael Conforto (.337), Travis d'Arnaud (.336) all have a shot as they round the final turn.
Freddy and Juan are also neck-and-neck in the OPS race (1.129, 1.172), but I would argue, even for young studs like these, the batting crown has more luster. Still.

He's in the lineup! And starting the season 2-for-2 :-)

Not the headline MLB was hoping to see this morning from the Gray Lady.

Not in a hurry to swing this spring - so far 18 PAs, 8 BBs, 3 Ks.

Ken Rosenthal at TheAthletic:
The Nats were wise not to wait around for Donaldson, signing five free agents — second baseman Starlin Castro, infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, first baseman Eric Thames and relievers Will Harris and Daniel Hudson — over a six-day span last week. But you know what? They still need Donaldson. Or Bryant. Or some other middle-of-the-order force if they wish to avoid Soto, one of the game’s great young stars, walking 150 times.

I'm sure he earned more in OPS leagues. Remember the numbers here are BA leagues and while .282 isn't bad, it's the 108 walks that juice that OPS.

Hard to believe a .949 OPS only earned him $30 in 2019 5x5. Wow. And .923 only $23 in 2018? I know, 414 ABs. But wow.
