09.14... Jesse Winker (intercostal) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Louisville.
Spin: Winker has been sidelined for about a month with an intercostal strain, but he's finally ready to get back in game action. If all goes well this week, he could return as soon as this weekend against the Dodgers. That's big as the Reds attempt to secure the second Wild Card spot in the National League. Fantasy managers should be pretty happy too.

As I  previously mentioned, the hints were there in 2019 that the power was coming.

Homers again today, so he's now matched his 2020 complete short season stats in the same number of at bats, suggesting this actually is a new standard. Keith Law seems to have been wrong about the power. At this point 33 homers is conservative.

I'll suggest BABIP effects are distorting his BA, but he's being so much more aggressive something else could be going on, too. Still, I'm comfortable with my BA projection going forward.

Los Rojos win the the 10th as Wink battles Hendriks to a full count, then lines a center cut fastball into center. An admirable and gutsy challenge if the bases are loaded but first base was open.

I'm not really sure what this is, but it seems a cool reason for a comment :-)

I halfway agree and halfway disagree with Keith about Winker's 2019 season. While he did have some regression, part of it was the 50 point drop in BABIP. OTOH he became more aggressive and his ISO and LD% both increased. His 2 roadblocks for 2021 are where is he going to play if the Reds are committed to Senzel in CF and his extreme streakiness.

Keith Law at The Athletic, writing about Six MLB Players Who Impressed During the 2020 MIni-Season:

The truncated 2020 season isn’t ideal for drawing big conclusions... Some players did change in ways they’ll carry forward into 2021, though, so it’s worth at least talking about some of the guys who did impress with what they did on the field in 2020.

Jesse Winker, OF, Reds, age 27

Winker had been a top 100 prospect for me and someone I ranked as a potential high-impact rookie going into 2018 — just generally a guy I thought would get on base at a high rate between his exceptional plate discipline and contact-oriented swing, but maybe without much power. He did some of that in 2018, but a shoulder injury ended his season after 89 games, followed by some regression at the plate in 2019. His 2020 was a much more impressive breakout, with exit velocity, hard-hit rate and Barrel rate all in the top 12 percent of major-league hitters, all of those career highs. He still swung and missed more often than you’d like against lefties in just 41 plate appearances, but not enough to make him a platoon guy.
