Rotoworld:

09.11: Jake Cronenworth has been diagnosed with a small fracture on his leftring finger. (Padres manager Jayce Tingler added that it's unclear how long Cronenworth will be sidelined, but he noted that it was similar to an injury sustained by Eric Hosmer, which kept him sidelined for 10 days last year. He also added that the Padres are open to the idea of moving Fernando Tatis Jr. back to shortstop in Cronenworth's absence. There should be some additional clarity on Cronenworth's status this weekend. Stay tuned.)

The Crone Zone!

Well done, Google Maps, well done! :-)

I honestly thought Cronenworth would be the bench guy and Kim would be the starter. A complete miss for me.

Is he deserving of being on this season's All-Star team?

Some Padres' fans are bitter he wasn't NL RoY ... and now feel he will similarly be rob'd of a spot in this year's All-Star game ...

This DP is MUST SEE! ... Not only is this, on its own merits, one of the best defensive plays I’ve ever seen, it has many back stories that make it FANTASTIC!  (Croney's rise from the low on the prospect depth charts ... Tatis' very poor start to 2021 (with glove, bat and arm) ... vs Dodgers ... late in the game, up by 1 run ... bullpen gasping and struggling ...)

LOL!  well it was one mph slower than his fastball, so maybe great algorithm, bad changeup?

What on earth do you suppose the algorithm is that determined that his first pitch was a "Changeup"? :-)

According to the ESPN play by play, Jake's repertoire consisted of two pitches.

Dodgers-Padres Spotlight

That game was a close back-and-forth into the 12th inning when the Dodgers finally broke through with 5 runs. One of those runs came on a unique play where Dodgers pitcher David Price got a hit off of San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth who was on the mound, and the ball was caught by San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove who was playing in left field.

This was Jake Cronenworth's first major league pitching appearance, although he was a two-way player at the University of Michigan and also had 7 pitching appearances for the 2019 Durham Bulls, the Tampa Bay Rays' AAA affiliate.

Joe Musgrove, who pitched the Padres' first no-hitter in franchise history last week, got his first non-pitching appearance in his MLB career with this appearance as a left fielder.

David Price, who spent his first decade of his MLB career in the AL, got the RBI on the sacrifice fly to Musgrove. That was just the second RBI of his career, his first coming in 2019.

With expectations for my Padres so high, it's been easy to overly focus on the many faults and flaws in the team's performance so far ... but I'll tell you what ... this kid is exceeding my expectations!  He faded poorly at the end of 2020 ... and that sour'd me on him ... so ... I am hoping he doesn't fade again after a couple of hot months ... a very good ballplayer!
