Smart move by the Brewers says this Crew fan, simply because he knows the pitching staff and both Narvaez AND Pina are on the IL. But from waiver wire to starting catcher. And not a bad week for the M's. Pick a guy up, get handed cash, hand guy back.

On April 22, the Brewers activated Nottingham and immediately DFA'd him. On April 28, the Mariners claimed him off of waivers. On May 1, the Mariners DFA'd Nottingham. Also on May 1, the Brewers placed Omar Narvaez on the 10-day IL with a hamstring strain. On May 2, the Brewers acquired (yes, you guessed it) Jacob Nottingham from the Mariners for cash considerations. He starts yesterday and goes 2-for-4 with two homers. Such are the trials and tribulations of fringy-type MLB players.

Less than two months to spring training!

We hope.

Nottingham had successful surgery on his left thumb Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 25-year-old appeared to sustain the injury during the loss to the Dodgers in Game 2 of the Wild Card Round, though it's unclear why he waited until now to receive the surgery. Regardless, Nottingham will have less than two months to recover before the expected start of spring training in February.
