64 pitches to get through five innings of one-hit shutout ball and a win. It has been a long time between wins for the Cards ace!

All of our bids are too low.

Jayson Stark at The Athletic:

... Let’s all concede, first off, that being a schedule maker was never going to be a good line of work in a season like this. Hey, can you knock off a 60-game schedule in the next 24 hours, keep travel to a minimum and let us put as many games on prime-time TV as possible? Cool. Thanks.

So considering what a mess this could have been, the schedule we wound up with is efficient, sensible and rivalry-filled. But you know what it isn’t? Fair.

... The Cardinals’ original calendar had them lined up against the AL East — which meant nine fun-filled games against the Yankees, Rays and Red Sox. But with that schedule now fed into the shredder, the Cards’ new interleague schedule subtracts all those teams but feeds them 10 games against the Royals and Tigers. Meanwhile, the Cardinals’ friends in the NL East and West get to play no games against the Royals and Tigers — but they could all be duking it out for the same wild-card spot. Perfect.
