Got the save against the Yankees with well-placed sliders and curves. Mixed in a low 90s fastball that usually missed. Hasn't been scored on yet.

Officially named the D-Backs closer.

It can’t last, can it?

Greg Holland (P) AZ - Mar. 5

Holland allowed a home run in Monday's game against the Reds.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Holland served up his second homer in as many outings, this one against Matt Kemp, who deposited an 88 mph fastball into the seats in left. The veteran reliever's fastball sat in the 88-89 mph range for the second straight appearance, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, which isn't a good sign for his chances to challenge Archie Bradley to become the closer.

In his recap, Scott White makes an interesting observation.

"Though the NL has developed a reputation in recent years for being the
weaker of the two leagues, it dominates the mixed-league top 300, making
it deeper, at least on the high end, at seemingly every position. There
was less splurging for the top-dollar players as a result."

Went for $1 in LABR ... and not as part of the end game ... I'm pretty sure I'd bid $2 ...

The Diamondbacks and Greg Holland have come to terms on a one-year contract, according to The Athletic's Robert Murray.

Fancred's Jon Heyman says the deal will carry a $3.5 million guarantee. It figured that the Diamondbacks would try to find another cheap closer after non-tendering Brad Boxberger, and Holland could very well get the ninth inning if he looks good this spring. That would leave Archie Bradley and Yoshihisa Hirano in setup gigs instead of contending for closing duties, but there is much to be decided.
