Could the 2012-13 Chapman be the 1975-76 Gossage?

Looking through some of my old baseball cards this weekend and pulled out a 1977 Gossage with the Sox and looked at the back of the card. I had forgotten the Sox moved him to the rotation, coming off a dominating season where he led the league in saves. He actually got off to great start in '76, completing 8 of his 14 games that year and ERA of 2.77 heading into July, but then you can see the innings took it's toll on him. Traded in the off-season to the Pirates (with Forster) for Zisk, and Tanner put him back in the closer's role where he responded with another dominating season. Amazingly, he struck out 16 more batters in 91 less IP. Granted free agency at the end of '77, signed by the Yankees and the rest is history.

Much like another great Yankee's closer in Mo, we can thank the baseball God's their starting days were short lived.
