For me it wasn't about getting a better deal. I wanted Wheeler at $10, a potential ace at a bargain price. For two years. It may not work out, but our team doesn't compete without a cheap ace. It still may not, but now it might.

If things go south we have a lot of trade chips, but this gives us our best chance to go north. I prefer that.

We talked about that. And we talked about the palpable desperation in season, when the also-rans would give just about anything for Tatis.

But neither of us felt we had the time to really pursue a trade before tomorrow's deadline, and we felt like we'd be also-rans if we didn't get a cheap starting pitcher with big upside.

If Zack fails us, we'll be offering Bryce Harper, trying with palpable desperation to get Tatis back.

Tatis $15 to Brubaker's Yeasts

Zack Wheeler $10 and Chris Taylor $4 to Original Oracles

I would have waited until tomorrow night. There's palpable desperation in the minutes leading up to the freeze deadline.

Speaking of the Marlins: The Marlins couldn't score the major league average number of runs in a full season against the staff at Gwinnett.

Change my mind.

Fixed. Thanks.

BTW ... Marlins?

The offers didn't roll in and Peter and I, busy with the second to last update, didn't have time to try to better the one offer that tempted us. So...

Tatis $15 to Brubaker's Yeasts

Zack Wheeler $10 and Chris Taylor $4 to Original Oracles

Back-to-back-to-back!

And he's a favorite to go back-to-back.

A very quick glance says Choes, Yeasts, and maybe the Gang (potentially great offense, needs to get lucky in pitching) are the favorites.

There's a fourth team that looks pretty strong, but the name escapes me at the moment.

Also: I read 'quite a few' and 'several' as the same thing. Anyone else?

The latter me thinks.

I just fact-checked; I should amend "quite a few" to "several." But unless he's here under a pseudonym, none other than the defending champion is a non-member.

Didn't seem to hurt him. He won last year wire to wire.
