The market for the top starting pitchers does seem extreme. Is that because so many good ones were frozen?

When does it collapse or does all this money get taken from hitters? Clearly not the top hitters but maybe the ones just below?

Without seeing the freeze lists, I get the impression that I was right all along. There is no Stage Four. But but leagues can go back to Stage One.

So, it seems that I am the market for Dee Gordon.  I got him again last night in my 5x5 11 team league.  I haven't been in this league for the past decade+.  The dynamics versus a 12 team league are interesting.  The bottom falls out at the end, which I wasn't expecting.  It left me with $7 on the table because I saw quality when normally I wouldn't.  Others just let me get my guys so they could get theirs.

Keepers in bold:
C Chirnos 7
C John Hicks 4

No minors, so when Vlad comes up it will be a FAAB bloodbath.  Eloy was considered available in the auction and went for $25.

Pitching came out exactly as planned.  I had Hand as the #1 reliever and closers were kind of erratically priced.  Chapman went first at only $22.  Hand went next.  Osuna 24, Giles 22, Barnes 15, Strickland 15.  Greene 10.  May 9.  Boxberger 10, Peralta 11.  Parker 9.  Braiser 8!  Jimenez 6.  I wanted a top closer to go with Givens and I got my target.

I think I am the market for Dee Gordon.  Altuve fell into my lap well below my inflation price.  Other top hitters went for more or next tier surprisingly high amounts.  Lindor 37, Torres 29, Bregman 44, Betts 54, Springer 30, Devers 33 late, Villar 27, Benintendi 36.

On the pitching side Sale 44, Kikuchi 17,Porcello 27!, Happ 24!, Verlander 43.

I spent $44 on pitching because of how high the prices were after Sale and Kluber. I will have to be active in FAAB for SPs, surely. I got a lot of good prices on hitters though so swinging a trade is possible.

Hell ... not having my spring filled with soccer practices, dance recitals, scout campouts, etc ... just gives me more time to review my minor leaguers lists!   We play 12-team NL only - that's why I was picking up guys like Alonso and Hampson in the ultra last March.  You can't just rely on the BB America top 100 list - hell, half the NLers on that list are protected in our league.

Although DropDeadFred plays in a deeper, even crazier league, iirc.

As we age (most of our owners are around 60 now), our reserve list has slowly shrunk from 17, to 9, to 6, and now 3 (with a separate DL).  Also, we're 12-teams, AL-only, so there's not a lot of leftovers . . .

Yep - the 17 round thing.  And we tend to scoop up Cubans, Japan-league guys, the top likely college draftees, etc.

Last year I was lucky enough to pick up both Hampson and Alonso in the $2 rounds at the end.  I'm quite happy about that ;-)

We've talked about the two-day thing, but it's hard enough to get the gang together for one day.  Tex, you still have a 17-round reserve draft?  Mazel.  We lost the strength for that long ago.

Mike Dean TMU2009

I like that, makes it more interesting IMO. My league owners would never make/have the time to do this. I know of a league that used to do the auction in Dodger Stadium, now that's class!

The Waggoner rules put the auction date a week into the season, right?

Our league has adopted a two day format - where we kick off the auction on an evening, get through about 5 or 6 rounds, clear out the big dollars, then come back the next morning to take care of the rest of our rosters and the 17-round ultra draft.

We're going for April 4-5 this year.

Phil Ponebshek Texpope

Hey, we don't draft until the 6th.
