Yeah - I think the Rox owe him $400,000+, but better than a guaranteed $2 million. Probably the right decision. I think Arenado is ready now, but he'll be down until June. Or until the Rockies keep losing with Nelson at 3B.

Cut today. Pacheco and Nelson fighting it out for 3B job. Would have had a $2 million guarantee on Opening Day if on roster.

$1 would have been enough. I had him higher on my sheet, but had made the mental calculation that $2 would have been about tops for him. By all accounts (and Troy Renck's is the one that matters to me), Arenado is up no later than June 1.

The argument for Casey is that he's a major league third baseman. Not a lot of power, no speed, not a good batting average, but playing time. Except that he's 39 this year, and the best Rockies' prospect is a third baseman and coming up behind him.

The Rocks may have moved Ian Stewart because they decided he was bad, but Casey Blake isn't on the team to be the everyday third baseman. At least not all year. $2 is plenty.

$2 in CBS.

Nice buy. Great buy if Casey can stay in the lineup for 100 games.

Peter and Mike disagree. About the buy.

I think Pacheco is more likely to be the UT guy, but I'm sure he'll get a shot in ST.

The other name floating around is Jordan Pacheco who played there some last season.

Can the Rox really be looking for Casey to be their regular third baseman? Methinks they shouldn't, but right now the alternatives are bleak.
