Looking at this again, MLB Trade Rumors predicted $4M a year. Holt signed for 3.25M plus a 750K buyout next year if the Brewers don't extend. That's $4M for 2020.

And if they do extend, he'll be paid $8.25M for two years, close to the MLB Traderumors estimate.

I mocked them a bit, they were pretty dead on.

The original prediction was totally wrong. Holt has value, I love the guy, but guaranteeing him that much this year seems crazy. But good for him. And good luck to the Brewers. I'm a Holt fan trying to be realistic.

He's getting $3.25 million for this year, with a club option for $5 million next year. If the Brewers opt not to, Holt gets $750,000.

Something tells me Holt would have been much, much happier with the contract that Trade Rumors predicted in November.

Brewers signed INF/OF Brock Holt to a one-year contract with a club option for 2021.

It will be interesting to see what kind of contract he ends up getting. Here's what MLB Trade Rumors had to say when it was ranking the top 50 free agents before any had signed:

41. Brock Holt, UTIL (original prediction: two years, $8MM)

  • Reported interest in Holt has been scarce, even though he’s coming off a nice run in Boston. While the 31-year-old possesses very little power, he has proved capable of mixing roughly league-average offensive production with defensive versatility. Holt saw action at six different positions (mostly second base) last season.

Nice utility player who unfortunately qualifies at only one position.
