Nats are going to have to counter ... is this where they go after Bryant?

Same contract as Strasburg. He'll be a better player over the length of the contract but when they're both at the top of their games, he's not as scarce.

Seven years at $245 mill. Mike Trout approves! NL-only owners, not so much.

I would think particularly considering that Harper's 2018 WAR (1.3) was bettered by Soto (4.7), Robles (4.1), and Eaton (1.6) this year ...

Going to be a bit more difficult envisioning how to replace Rendon's 6.3 WAR this year ... or his 5.5 3-year average.

The point that's being made here in the DC metro in the sports media is that they got a pass on Harper, even at the time, and particularly now that they've won.  But you can't let that happen twice in a row.  Yes, the championship buys management a LOT of slack, but still . . .

He's a free agent, and you have to figure that every team is running the numbers on the free agent class using the same analysis, projections, and assumptions as this Washington Post story. If everybody is using the same numbers, they're all going to end up on the same page (except for the teams that are dumping). TLDR: $248.5M/7 Years.

I have to admit, when he hit his homer, I thought, "Here they come."

So did 43,000 others sitting in the stands. It felt like -- and was, as it turned out -- the exact same script from the night before.
