I'm working on Big Prices for the Guide. Today I have Anthony Rendon with a price of $26. What do you think?

It's not surprising that it was Rendon. According to Bill James, Rendon led the majors in both TT and xTT last year.

Also, the "Double Dagger."  When your closer blows the win for your starter, depriving you of a win AND a save.

Also, "slow relief."  That's when your starter coughs up 4 ERs in the first, and winds up going 7IP/4ER, or something like that.

That's called "ticker tease."  You see the score and presume your guy did something good, but the box score tells you something else.  "Ticker shock" is when you see a devastatingly bad score in a game against one of your pitchers and you think your ERA and WHIP will be destroyed, only to learn your pitcher performed well and the devastation occurred only after he was finished for the night.

Nothing worse than seeing your player go 0-5 in a 14 run game by his team.

What if you also had the opposing starting pitcher? I'd say that would be worse.

Top five WAR (Fangraphs version) last year, position players:

Aaron Judge 8.2

Jose Altuve 7.5

Mike Trout 6.9

Giancarlo Stanton 6.9

Anthony Rendon 6.9

Off and Def (explained under Altuve) for these five:

Judge  60.8    -1.3

Attuve  52.6   -0.1

Trout  54.9   -3.5

Stanton  47.8  -0.5

Rendon  34.3  15.8

Rendon had a nice year at the plate. His 34.3 Off is just a shade behind Harper's (34.5) and places him 15th in the majors. But it's his Def that puts him in the WAR elite.

Is that valid?

I dunno. The three players trailing him in WAR:

Kris Bryant 6.7

Joey Votto 6.6

Jose Ramirez 6.6

Charlie Blackmon 6.5

If I had an MVP ballot, I'd be inclined to put Votto ahead of both Rendon and Bryant.

Ahead of Stanton, too?

Maybe. Which would have tipped the vote his way!

It was that close.
