Miami Marlins — The Marlins have traded closer Yimi Garcia to the Astros.  Anthony Bender and Dylan Floro should lead a committee for Miami and we will see if either one can establish themselves as the primary closer the rest of the season.

Updated hierarchy remains: *Bender | Floro | Bass.
* = closer-by-committee

Joker picks Bender (in the Chafin thread) and I agree with his reasoning. I now lean to Bender.

The Monkey on buy/sell candidates at the break.

Miami Marlins – Yimi Garcia has performed well enough that a contender might be willing to part with a low-level prospect in exchange for his services for the season’s final two months. But he hasn’t been good enough to displace virtually any team’s closer at this point. This means his value is likely to drop off a cliff, while Anthony Bender is the best bet to be elevated in his place.

BUY+: Anthony Bender, SELL+: Yimi Garcia.

Yimi Garcia has been solid this year, but he's also a Free Agent next season. Moving Garcia would more than likely give Bender a good shot at laying claim to the ninth-inning gig in the second half. I think I'll toss a buck or two his way in my Mixed Leagues just in case.

Secures first career save
July 5, 2021
Bender recorded a strikeout and didn't allow a hit or a walk during a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Monday's 5-4 win over the Dodgers.
Justin Turner reached via an error to open the frame, but Bender retired the next three batters with little fanfare to close out the victory. The right-hander notched the first save of his MLB career as closer Yimi Garcia pitched each of the past two days and surrendered four runs during Sunday's outing. Bender has a 0.68 ERA and 34:7 K:BB with five holds across 26.1 innings as he's putting together an impressive rookie campaign.

Bender finishes off the Mets on a bender as the Marlins take 2 out of 3 and actually go two games up on the Mets in the win column.
