I wonder what the deepest hole is (in value) that a pitcher has dug, and still wound up in positive territory for the season.  Seems like no chance for Cobb to get there, if only because he won't be winning many games.

A completer game five-hitter against the Indians in Progressive.

More progress!

It's been a season to forget for the Orioles and Cobb, but there is optimism Cobb can turn it around next year.

He's got a 2.17 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP over 37 1/3 IP in his last 6 starts.

I still believe missing ST was a contributing factor to his terrible first half.

The good last night in Anaheim: lots of grounders (13/3 G/F).

The bad: very few whiffs (two: four of 89 pitches swung at and missed).

And, of course, I reserved him in this week's MUDs (Monday ups and downs).

On Sunday I can activate him (although instead of down it's out -- I have to drop a set-up guy) to face the A's in Oakland.

Do I drink the Kool Aid?

I'll be doing Alex Cobb a mighty favor if I don't.

There's a monetary penalty if Slyke cuts him but it's so low that it shouldn't keep him from cutting Cobb if he feels Cobb just can't cut it.

Oh no you won't!

He managed to get to the fifth with a 3-1 lead, when it all fell apart. Single, bunt single, double, long out to right, sac fly, double, single, walk... I wish I could say he sailed through the first four, but in fact he never recorded a strikeout and had only three swing and misses out of 77 pitches.

If I had displayed Slyke's restraint, I'd be seven points higher in the standings.

I will activate him Monday.....and cross my fingers.

Slyke has until Monday at noon to either activate Cobb or lose him in our league.

Are you kidding me? The Rays have won four in a row!

What was I thinking?

And in fact I have another half hour in which I can replace Alex Cobb with a harmless middle reliever on my reserve list. You know, someone like Alex Claudio.

Okay, I've got other choices besides Claudio. But the only way I can avoid Cobb's stats today is to drop him altogether. Can't ice him until next Monday.

At least his start yesterday was rained out. He can't pitch twice this week.
