On his way to Japan. He has signed on with the NPB's Yakult Swallows.

Escobar was released today.  It's Martin all the way and he's a Rule 5 so he's going to be in the majors no matter what.  I've seen Drew Jackson's name floated as well, but he's far more unlikely IMO.

Eugene, who's your pick for Orioles SS?  I don't see an entry for Martin here...to whom should our $1 bids go?

Once upon a time Escobar flashed decent leather.  Last year a negative dWAR.

I can see a rebuilding team signing a really bad bat for SS in order to improve defensively - because it's nice for young pitchers, as you bring them up, to get rewarded for inducing ground balls.

Escobar seems more like an "oh, I've heard of him" signing.

Maybe Iglesias is also willing to sign a minor league deal.

I would have preferred Iglesias.

Not like he's blocking some impressive shortstop phenom.

The weird thing about our game is this useless player (offensively and defensively) could still earn close to $10 on a $1 investment if he had a little luck with batting average or if the Orioles somehow decided to let him run a bit.

Clubhouse presence and intangibles.....has to be.

Minor league deal with O's, I believe I read, which poses the musical question:  "Why?"
