Shawn Hill Florida Marlins
Not a big K pitcher, but you're right, he has upside. One of the problems with guys like this is that they are high in the pitching rotation, so they have to face everyone's good pitchers. I don't think you'll get him for $5.

If he gets 400 ABs; that's alot. Not only will he be in competition for playing time, but you know he's going to get hurt as well. Of course, he has an outside chance to get 20, but he needs quite a bit of ifs.

Jose Vidro Seattle Mariners
Plays like he's 43, but he gets the bat on the ball. You can have him.

Gotcha. Looking back at it, your comment was clear.

I wasn't implying that it was anything other than the traditional 5x5 including BAvg, not OBP, but OBP, rather than BAvg leads to Runs scored, so it's still a useful skill to have for a 5x5 player.

I should point out that Sportsline uses BA and not OBP.

Frank Thomas Chicago White Sox
The most concerning issue is the drop in his SLG. Part of it is masked by the change in ballparks. Oakland is less of a HR park than Toronto, so his actual decline is probably worse. But, his OBP is still very high, so he's going to be a useful hitter.

Really Jeff? You think he has no shot at 20 HR's?

I think 20 HR's is a safe assumption...he may hit .250, though.

Duncan and Betemit may take some AB's away against LHP, but he still should get 400 - 425 AB's.

I don't see Betemit taking his AB's against RHP.

He is no longer a $20 CO, but is still useful, and he will not hurt you at $12 if he gets 400 AB's.

Jose Vidro Seattle Mariners
He doesn't hit for power, hits for a good average, doesn't drive in many runs, and doesn't steal. But, in a 5x5 he is useful, because he has a high OBP and that leads to scoring runs.

In real baseball, OBP is the most useful attribute of a hitter. The problem is DHs are supposed to be well above average hitters since they don't add anything else. A DH whose slugging average is only 80 points higher than his batting average should be an embarassment to his general manager.

Frank Thomas Chicago White Sox
The Big Hurt can still tote the lumber. $14 for 26 homers and 95 ribbies is a Big Bargain. Why not?

His production depends on his PT, so only Kreskin could figure out what that would be. The Yankees use alot of different guys at DH, and Giambi isn't going to play much first, so you have to wish him well and send him on his way without your money. No way he'll hit 20 dingers.

Jose Vidro Seattle Mariners
He sunk to $1 in Sportsline, more because of the DH/OF glut than any kind of Vidro bias. Still, I can see why Alex isn't standing on his feet and cheering.

He sunk to $1 in the Sportsline expert auction, but that's more because there are too many DHs/OFs and not enough slots. He's still a useful baseball player if he's going to get on base at a 36% clip, but I'd agree with Amaros that the Yankees could and should do better.

Frank Thomas Chicago White Sox
Dropped to $14 in the Sportsline expert auction. Which, given all the DHs out there and the fact that Thomas is 40 in baseball age, might still have been a little too much.

Travis Hafner New York Yankees
Something is rotten in Denmark here. Last year is such a big tailoff, that there must be a reason. 2006 was a logical progression and he was great that year. I see a red warning light. And he's only eligible at DH, so you'll be clogging your DH spot early.

Sports Weekly reports that Hafner had a new marriage last year and family health issues.

If you ask me, that doesn't explain 18 less HR in 91 more ABs.

John Patterson Washington Nationals
Watch the velocity and control from spring. I would think if they look OK, then he is worth something under $7 just for the upside.

I agree to bring him up real early if you want him for under $5.

This is actually someone who I am going to be targeting for $5 or under.

Great upside here.

Nice numbers last year in his 16 starts, but I am not sold that will translate into similar numbers this year.

The last time he hit 100 IP in a season was in 2003 between A and AA, and is recovering from surgery in September on his right elbow.

Most of the Nationals' SP are question marks this year, and I would not go more than a buck or two on Hill.

Roger Clemens Boston Red Sox
Toz, I definately have not missed the last 40 posts or so, because I have stated before that I could really care less (give a rats ass) about who has or hasn't taken steroids. I just can't believe there are actually people who still believe all the crap that Clemens is saying since the Mitchell report came out. He has contradicted himself (lied) many times and has to keep back tracking every time something new comes out.

Don't you find it odd that he had to talk to his former nanny before the investigators contacted her?

Don't you find it odd that his lawyers were laughing at McNamee's claim that he injected Mrs. Clemens when it first came out?

Don't you find it odd that his best friend won't corraborate his story?

I will say it again. I had my suspicions that Clemens would be one of the players named before the Mitchell Report even came out. I thought there would be even more names in there that were not named. Everything that has transpired since the report came out has only deepened my belief that Clemens took HGH and/or Steroids.

Like I have stated before. I could care less that he took stuff. I am just amazed that there are people that actually believe anything that comes out of his mouth!
