Ivan Rodriguez Texas Rangers
What's going on with IRod? He is lighting it up in st with 6HR, .429 avg and 1.459 OBP. Was he on one of those good lists of people who are in super good shape this year? (We know about the bad lists...)

Can't imagine going to double digits -- why pay $15 (or close to it) when the established ceiling (from 2003, no less) is $23? I think you're happy in the $8 range, but you're still holding your breath.

Seems as good a place to put a buck or two (or three) as any of the likely sub-$5 suspects.

Rafael Soriano Chicago Cubs
Now through his formative years. He has pitched two solid seasons of good health.

A manager who knows how to handle pitchers plus solid skills means he is certainly in play. I wouldn't go crazy, but if he is really healthy, he could save 40 games.

If he is moderately healthy (which I think is the best bet), he is a 30-35 save guy with good peripherals.

Don't be afraid and be ready to buy if people are gunshy (just don't go crazy).

needs a bid, as it looks like he'll start the season in the rotation

I can only think that WShapiro is one of those 20-somethings who have migrated from the football pools! Since when is 31 old?

Davis hit most of those in the Cal league and he has a 5-1 k/w ratio. I'm not saying he won't pass Broussard at some point but this year he has to learn to walk before he can run.

Alex, you may want to add a line, quietly, on Alexai Ramirez, who hit .335 with 20 homers in Cuba last year. He signed a four-year deal with the White Sox in December for $4 million or so. An infielder. Not sure of age but probably 26-29. Hasn't showed defense this spring, but he can hit. With Guillen, who knows?

Before anyone gets too comfortable with the idea of 31-year old Broussard playing regularly all season, just remember that the Rangers (a rebuilding team) have 22-year-old Chris Davis, a left-hand hitter who slugged 36 HRs last year between High-A and Double AA, waiting in the wings.

Don't you think Minnesota fans will want to see something from the Santana trade? The Twins are going nowhere,so why not let the fans see the key player from the trade?

I've watched a few Cardinals games this spring. He actually looks good enough to contribute.

Rule 5 pick who seems to be sticking given Rasmus's being sent to the minors and Juan Gonzalez being hurt (and not hitting). Not sure if he can play center, which would help get some additional playing time, but if he does make the team he could be a nice crapshoot pickup for that last OF slot.

Steve Pearce Boston Red Sox
The Pirates optioned him to AAA today. Not a surprise with Bay, Nady and LaRoche blocking him from getting regular AB's.

He should be up before too long and still should have an impact in 2008.

I don't know why it did that. Really, I'm not that repetitive. Really, I'm not that repetitive.

Regardless of his health status on Opening Day, the bid needs to be cut in half. Yes, he could earn $30 if everything clicks, but the odds of that happening are like the odds of Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee showing up on the Yankee Stadium mound on Opening Day and ironing out their disagreements with a big ol' hug.

How the heck do you get 'general body soreness' from DH-ing and being pinch-ran for when you get on base? Even if he's just starting to work out seriously given the knee injury, he shouldn't be too sore to DH. This has got to be something beyond a couple of Advil.

Billy Butler Oakland Athletics
Debate him about what? Whether or not Billy Butler's a sleeper in an A.L. only league?

I have a pretty good idea of how the Fantasy baseball business works. My problem is with the fact that there are a very small handful of people who have a lot of power in that business, and they typically don't flex their muscle at all.

Andy Sonnanstine Chicago Cubs
From the Tampa Tribune:

"Edwin Jackson and Jason Hammel are out of options and probably will be on the Opening Day roster whether in a starting or long-relief role. If Kazmir was healthy, Andy Sonnanstine or J.P. Howell likely would have been the odd man out, with one pitcher making the roster and the other going back to Durham"
