While I've always been a fan of DePodesta, I can't for the life of me understand what they are doing here. Valdespin still has upside, but he has to play every day. What they should have done after the HR incident was to play him the next day and let him get hit. Then send him to AAA for a month and say "We'll bring you back when you show us you can play hard every day for a month." At the very least give him a chance to play every day to show other organizations that he has a future. If not for the player, for yourself. |

Since May 1, a .129/.270/.323 line. They must be keeping him up for his clubhouse demeanor. |

Watching the game last night in the 9th, hoping for a Pirates win, Valdespin is asked to pinch hit in the bottom of the 9th in 7-1 game. He launches a solo HR off Contreras to make it 7-2 and proceeded to put on a show like he just hit a walk off grand slam to win the World Series. Fast forward to today. The Pirates are up 10-1 in the 7th with 2 outs and nobody on and Valdespin is asked to pinch hit for LaTroy Hawkins. Bryan Morris nails Valdepsin with a pitch, then strikes out Wright to end the inning. As Morris comes back to the dugout he is greeted by Hurdle and his teammates with his knuckle bumps, high fives and pats on the ass. On the flip side, when Valdespin returned to the dugout, his teammates and coaches ignored him and he then slams his batting helmet to the dugout cement. First, that's how you retaliate (everyone in the ballpark knew Valdespin was going to get drilled yet there were no issues), second, sounds like Valdespin has already alienated his teammates, which is not good. He's a talented player but he needs to improve his maturity level. Hopefully he uses today's moment as a wake-up call, and he becomes a better teammate and shows he can act like a big leaguer. |

Andypro- "if Jeter had done it, we'd see it at Yankee Stadium for 20 yrs" I was thinking the exact same thing when it happened. |

Crap! I forgot the best part: Right after the game, Valdespin gets the customary Pie-in-the-face-during-interview and proceeds to give one of the most indecipherable interviews I've ever seen. Just classic. |

I really should watch more baseball. Decided to watch the end of Mets/Dodgers tonight, since it was close and I have both Parnell and League. In the bottom of the 9th, LA's up 1 with a man on third and one out when Jerry Hairston makes a great grab of a foul pop just over the rail. The play may not make the highlights, but if Jeter had done it, we'd see it at Yankee Stadium for 20 yrs. Then, Wright spoils the whole thing by immediately knocking in the tying run on the next pitch. After Parnell pitches a scoreless 10th, Josh Wall gets wild and loads the bases with one out. Then, on a 3-1 pitch, Valdespin sends everyone home happy with a Granny that hits the top of the fence. Yea, I should watch more baseball. |

Adam Rubin is my fave for the Mets, but there are a few others.

I don't recall Ron Darling or Keith Hernandez mentioning any of this. Perhaps if I followed them on Twitter?

I like how you're using terminology like Yo and dropping references to Adele now Alex. Seadogs covered most of it. |
