Small sample size encouragement - strikeouts per walk have dropped to close to 2010 levels, and flyball rate is way back up again. Heyward has enough power that, if he keeps his plate discipline up and keeps putting the ball in the air, we could see a big time HR surge during the season.

My current earn expectation on Heyward is $16. So in a 20% inflation league that's about $20. But if he earned $30, I wouldn't be terribly surprised either.

I paid $22 in Tout, so he's coming down a little. Or else maybe I should have stuck with my original price. I hope not!

I was thinking that his 2011 numbers, combined with an atrocious ST (1K/3 AB, 6-1 K/BB ratio, .182 BA), would depress the bidding on Heyward. Apparently not yet. Went for $25 in LABR. |

In 448 spring training AB, Braves are batting .227; in 14 games have scored 44 runs. Heyward's batting .176 with a 12/2 K/W in 11 games.

Well, not only will Heyward have a winter off to get healthy ... but he'll have a new batting coach, as the Braves go from Larry Parrish (who some thought had too aggressive an approach) to Greg Walker (former White Sox hitting coach). The Braves had declared that their main goal was finding a hitting coach who would have the right approach with Heyward. It would have been interesting to have sat in on those interviews ... |
