Hit two HR's today. Will probably start the year in AAA, but he will be stealing AB's from Wilkerson by mid-year. |

I agree. I don't see an open roster spot for Wlad. If there is to be an extra OF making the team, it will probably be Reed or Morse. Plus, Mariner management seems very reluctant to start rookies of late, witness the non-to-mis use of Jones last year. |

There's still the occasional chatter that he's going to make the Mariners and wind up platooning with Brad Wilkerson. While I guess that's possible, I think it's more likely that Balentien starts the year in AAA and perhaps earns a mid-season promotion. A mid-season hand injury sapped some of his power late last year, so watch to see if there are any lingering effects. There are no doubts about his power: he's a dead pull hitter who won't be diminished by Safeco as much as others might. The upside is probably Jose Guillen, which isn't all that bad, though I think Wlad will struggle with his BA. |
