So let's say they get all 104 of those ballplayers in front of a bank of microphones. Will any of them be stupid enough or egotistical enough to take the Roger Clemens defense? It's unlikely. It's far more plausible that most will take the Andy Pettitte/Brian Roberts defense. "I knowingly took HGH twice and am truly sorry." It's not a crime to take HGH. It is illegal, however, to dispense it without a prescription. I hope you're wrong, Alex. If you're right, though, all we're going to get out of this is 104 more little mini-circuses. Players who lie a little ("I only did it twice!) and show the "right amount" of contrition will get a pat on the head. Players who lie a lot or are completely telling the truth will have garbage thrown at them in the public square. And the BALCOs and Brian McNamees of the world will have no reason whatsoever to stop dealing the junk. |

Sorry, Mike, but it's all about those 104 ballplayers whose names the feds are just itching to reveal in front of a bank of microphones they wouldn't see if they busted 104 Balco labs. |

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3401868 Like I said months ago, this is a law enforcement matter. Being a law enforcement matter, it turns out that the baseball players, no matter how famous or wealthy, are the little fish in this case and the people who distributed the drugs are the kingpins. According to the report, one of the primary goals of the U.S. government is to obtain search warrants...for a specific case involving an alleged steroids distributor. Of course, it's possible that nothing may come of this. But even this step will do more to root out drugs in baseball - or at least punish the scumbags who deal the stuff and are the real cause of the problem - than the Congressional circus we saw back in February. |

Absolutely. Clemens has been referred to the JD by Congress. Let's see what happens. No need to drag politics into it. |

The FBI investigating and the Justice Department brining charges before a Grand Jury are still huge steps apart from each other. |
