Finally, this June 6, he's swinging the bat like he remembers how to hit. Let's see if this continues.

I still have hopes for 2008, though not for a batting championship. Take a look at strange early and late numbers for 2007. Hit only 3 HRs through June last year, 16 the rest of the way. But I don't remember his looking so lost last spring, and he hit about .270.

Still looks lost. Below .220, and I'm even more shocked by the limp 4 HR and 19 RBI. 12 HR and 60 RBI weren't what anyone who paid $30 expected from this guy.

Continued to look lost at the plate today, even as he hacked a high inside pitch into the short rightfield porch in Yankee Stadium. An abrupt turnaround, to say the least, after hitting .446 in spring training, with 19 ribbies in 20 games. A batting championship, this year, seemed like a reasonable expectation. Now I'm thinking 2009.

He went all the way to $32 in CBS Sportsline. Like Rotoman, everyone's expecting a power spike, but people I know who watch the Yankees say that's not how Cano's swing is tailored. He might get to 25 HR simply due to the raw talent he has, but 30 would be stretching it. I do like the walk jump. I've seen players take that small step forward follow it up by taking an even bigger step forward, and seeing all their other numbers ride the crest of that particular wave.
