I imagine his Syracuse teammates will expect him to pick up a few bar tabs ... given that he'll be making about 3 times the AAA minimum annual salary. For every inning he pitches. |

Lannan led all LH starting pitchers in GB/FB ratio last year. He was brutal on LHB's last year with a .589 OPS against and a nearly 4 to 1 K/BB ratio. With the depth of their rotation, Lannan is not needed there, but boy, he could be a great LOOGY. But not for the Nats at that salary when they need a center fielder. |

@Tex. That's why the arbitration rules provide comparing players with similar service time.

He is also apparently being actively shopped by the Nationals. I did not hear anything about potential interest, but it makes sense to shop him around a bit and see what kind of market there is for him.

Must be a bit of a bitter pill to lose your arb hearing over $5 mil versus $5.7 mil ... the same day your club signs Edwin Jackson (106 ERA+ in 2011, to Lannan's 104) to a one-year deal for around twice that. But then, he's going to get paid $5 million next year to play baseball at a slightly above replacement player level. Not too bad... |
