The big-name shortstops all came up early in NL Tout: Reyes 44, Ramirez 40, Rollins 36. A short time later Tulowitzki went for 27, and in the second half Furcal went for a need-based 25. For whatever all of that means. I'm inclined to think Rollins and Tulo make the most sense at those prices. |

I'd agree with the argument that no one N.L. player had a season that was head-and-shoulders above the rest. On the other hand, Rollins' rate stats tell me that he didn't belong in the discussion. His positive counting stats were great, but his negative counting stats get ignored if you're only looking for reasons to hang your hat on giving Rollins an MVP award. Rollins' rate stats in the N.L. put him slightly below Alfonso Soriano: a guy who had a very good year who didn't seriously belong in the MVP discussion. |

It is only going to punish Rockie hitters that have huge differences in Home-Away splits.
Like I said, I don't see any one player as having "THE" MVP season. I am fine with Rollins winning it because you can make the case that his season was very valuable to the Phillies. Rollins scoring 139 runs, 10% more than any other NL player, could be a reason why he won the award, along with the fact that he did go 30-94-41. If the Mets don't choke, I bet it would have been Wright tha took home the award. |

That argument is going to punish Colorado hitters forever and ever. And it's only going to flow in one direction; I doubt a Rockies starter with a 3.80 ERA is going to get Cy Young votes because the writers feel sorry for him. |

Did you guys know that Holliday and Rollins had identical OPS numbers in away games? Rollins actually out-slugged Holliday on the road.
In my mind, there wasn't somebody who stood out as having THE MVP season, so I'm fine with it going to Rollins. I would have been fine with Wright or Holliday getting it too. It sounds like not only chicks dig the long ball? |
