The New York press would go bananas over Barry.

Hey, at least we still have a press!

And at this stage of the game, Lofton may well be a poorer defensive center fielder than either Angel Pagan or Todd Church ... while Barry offers a 300+ point OPS upgrade over Lofton.

If Beltran goes down they will need a CF and my guess is Kenny Lofton's phone will ring. He doesn't have any baggage and has a "championship pedigree."

My guess is that it's mainly a function of (a) need; and (b) GM's willingness to deal with a shitstorm. For a lot of reasons, I see the Mets as a candidate - there are so many high profile players that Barry won't outshine everyone, and if Alou doesn't come back on a timetable and/or Beltran's knees act up, they may well be buyers before anyone else is prepared to.

The operating owner, Howard Lincoln. Now if it were me trying to decide who might be the better DH, Vidro or Bonds...
