Very little, if anything. He's on pace for a 35 HR year. Assuming he does that, he'll end the year with 55 HR and enter Opening Day next year at the age of 33. Even if he only hits 30 HR a year until his Age 40 season, he'll finish that season with 795 career HR. He's one of the greatest players who have ever played the game, and his 844 OPS in postseason play will bear little, if any, weight in how he's judged amongst baseball's immortals. |

A Rod's stats this year are decent (given his time on the DL), but again this year, it seems he is not a clutch hitter. What exactly are his "clutch stats" both this year and for his career? How does he compare to Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Barry Bonds and the like? What do those numbers do to his legacy? |

By the way, Rototimes' values calculator says that A-Rod earned $55 last year in 5x5. If you bought him at $54 and believe that he earned $55 last year, then you did indeed get him at a good price. But a masochist could easily tell you why you didn't. |

A mathematical way of looking at it is if A-Rod is 60% better than the best free agent and Josh Fields is 1% better, you should blow a lot of money on A-Rod and live with the guy who is 1% worse than Josh Fields, knowing that there is going to be an ample free agent pool of players with which to replace the worst option at 3B if you also own A-Rod. The downside, of course, is that if A-Rod goes down, you're going to be hurting. But that's true in any format. |

Good point. The number of teams is critical to the strategy, and I'd much rather have A-Rod at $53 and a $1-$3 Hank Blalock than settle for two guys in the middle (at probably a similar combined price). |
